It’s been almost a year and we are still in a pandemic. A. Whole. Year. I’m pretty sure we can all say that we are tired of the masks and the unknown. We may can’t go to functions as normal, but we can still thrift (well for now). Safety is a top priority, especially in a health pandemic. In this post, you’ll get seven tips on how to thrift in a pandemic.
1. Wear your masks
At this point, a mask is the final touch to your outfit lol. By now, you guys know how important it is to wear a mask in public places. The thrift store is no different.
2. Follow the safety guidelines at your local thrift store
Personally, I don’t follow the arrows on the floor in stores lol, but I definitely practice social distancing. I tend to stay away from aisles that are filled with people. If an aisle or section is occupied, browse through another one in the meantime (you can always go back).
3. Create a shopping list
You need a shopping list! A shopping list makes everything easier to remember and search for. With a shopping list, you can walk in a thrift store and head straight to the sections on your list. It saves time (limits your time around people) and money (you only buy what you really need). If you need help creating a list, check out these tips on how to find thrift inspiration.
4. Clean your purchased items
This is a must! Always clean and wash your thrifted items before wearing or using them. This prevents scabies, allergic reactions, and anything that can possibly infect your skin. If you want tips on how to clean your thrifted items, let me know in the comments and I’ll be happy to put a blog post together.
5. When in doubt, thrift online
If you’re not quite comfortable with thrifting in-store, try thrifting online. Personally, I’ve never thrifted online, but have heard positive comments about it. People often thrift on Thred up, which has been known to sell thrifted items at affordable prices. Also, check out Instagram to find vintage, Depop, and Poshmark resellers.
6. Shop with less people in the store
Less people are typically in a thrift store in the morning and evening times. Also, you can thrift during the weekdays (like Monday or Tuesday) versus the weekends. You can shop in peace knowing a lot of people are not near you (and taking all the good stuff lol).
7. Avoid touching anything you aren’t going to buy
You can definitely wear gloves, but avoid touching anything you aren’t going to purchase. We all know thrift stores can carry lots of germs and dirt. We don’t want any extra germs on our hands (and carry hand sanitizer with you to the thrift store).
Even though we are still in a pandemic, we can still have fun while thrifting (safely of course). I hope these tips encourage you to still thrift (those preloved gems need a home). If you have more tips on how to thrift in a pandemic, please share them in the comments. A healthy well-being is always a priority.
As Always, thanks for stopping by and Happy Thrifting!
